Volunteers needed!

AmorettaVolunteers are always needed at the Adams County Pet Rescue. We have many people that work together to not only provide care to all of the animals in our shelter, but we also need help with feeding and cleaning too. If you have any time to spare and you would like to get to know our pets at the shelter and learn about our organization, please fill free to contact Jamie @ 509-750-9123

Also, our shelter is always looking for donations!  At this time we could really use these items:

  • Disinfectant wipes
  • Latex gloves
  • Paper towel
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Trash bags
  • Canned dog food
  • Dish soap
  • ***New Volunteers***

Foster homes are also always need in for our animals. Just recently our pregnant Doxie, Amoretta gave birth to her baby puppies. She was very lucky because she was able to have her babies in a foster home that was nice and warm. Fostering a rescue dog is a very rewarding experience and it also is terrific to see our foster dogs go to amazing homes.   Bosco

Wally aka Bosco is another one of our shelter dogs that was recently adopted by a family. Here he is in his new home relaxing on a doggie bed with new toy. Way to go Bosco!

We need help with 2 Pitbulls!

There is no such thing as a boring day at the Adams County Pet Rescue.  Today, I got an email from a property owner that happened to be driving by and noticed 2 dogs just hanging out near an abandoned mobile home.  She said the dogs looked pretty skinny.  Obviously – it’s one of those situations that must be addressed quickly.  I loaded up my normal “dog rescue” gear consisting of gallons of water, dog food, and of course left over dinner.  Spotting the dogs was easy, because they medium sized dogs.  Once I got pulled off the side of the road, my 11 yr old side kick and I were assessing the situation.  WOW is about all we could say, because the dogs were COVERED in these horrible huge ticks and….Pitbulls.  Darn it, the Adams County Pet Rescue doesn’t accept Pitbulls.  However, it is a mission of mine to find a home or place for these dogs to go.  They are not aggressive, nor did they seem mean.  The 2 dogs were REALLY hungry!  The top ramen (2 packages of beef w/ egg) were gobbled down in 2 gulps a piece.  I also had 5 cups of dog food that lasted a few mins.  I was worried the dogs would fight over the food, but they were fine.  Now: where and who will take these dogs.  The brown male had his tale wagging the whole time, while the brindle Pitbull was more scared than anything.  I plan on feeding these 2 everyday until we have someone that will take them!  If you can help, please do!!  They have been dumped on the corner of Bench Road and Danielson Road in Othello, WA.  Even donations for dog food will help, because I will feed these 2 dogs everyday from my own pocket if I have too!   Our Adams County Pet Rescue website is the place to donate money.  Washington state residents or nearby states that have Pitbull rescues – we would LOVE to hear from you!  Thanks.

Update: These dogs were rescued the day they were found by a gentleman down the road.  He opened the tailgate of his truck, and both jumped right in!

Samantha Haven – US Navy woman & her lost dog Rosie

When Samantha lost her dog, she never would have realized how hard it would have been to find Rosie (her adopted dog from a pet rescue from Fresno, CA).  Rosie was terrified, but caught after a long 10 day battle.  Rosie was taken in by a terrific family in Sprague, Washington.  Not only did this family take Rosie in, but they took time to get her to the vet for her injured paw.  The community of Sprague also held a fundraiser at a rest stop along I-90 to get the necessary money to fly Rosie home to Cleveland, Ohio.  Talk about a journey!  Our rescue would never turn down helping a member of the military or helping a scared dog.  We are very pleased to say Rosie is home with Sam‘s father in Cleveland while she is deployed.  Our hearts will miss Rosie, but we are so happy she is home with family.  Words will never be able to thank Ashley Lynn & her amazing family enough (I know I am missing several people) for their dedication, time, and devotion to help this dog get home.  For more information about this story, please check out our Facebook pagea1.  We also have updates!  Thank you.

Update Time! Recall Penny, the small dog found in a box?

Penny’s story is one of those heartbreaking stories that can make any animal lover just wonder why would anyone ever do anything to such a tiny little girl?  When she was found, she was in such bad shape.  One of the volunteers at Adams County Pet Rescue has gone above and beyond with Penny, and we could not be happier!  This is a photo of Penny three months living in her home.  The photo speaks for itself:)  Penny will never be treated poorly again.  To learn more about becoming a foster home, please visit the Adams County Pet Rescue website.  Being a volunteer is a wonderful experience for not only the person volunteering, but for the entire community to get involved.
